Massage After Surfing or Training in Bali: What to Book

How to choose recovery-focused massage after surfing, running, lifting or long travel without mistaking pain for progress.

Give the therapist useful context

Say what you did, when you did it and where you feel restricted. General soreness after a new activity is different from sharp pain, swelling, numbness or a recent impact. A massage therapist can adapt a recovery session, but should not diagnose an injury.

Choose pressure conservatively

The hardest treatment is not necessarily the most effective one. After a demanding surf or gym session, very aggressive work may leave already irritated tissue more uncomfortable. Agree on a pressure scale and ask the therapist to check in when working around shoulders, lower back, hips or calves.

Know when not to book

Pause and seek appropriate medical advice for severe or worsening pain, suspected fractures, infection, fever or neurological symptoms. Tell the therapist about medication, recent surgery and health conditions before the appointment rather than once the session has started.
